Need to show extra information on your listings beyond the built-in name, description, and address? Text fields and textareas let you add any custom text content you need.
Text Field vs. Textarea
Text Field: a single line of text. Good for short values like a job title, hours, pricing, status, or any quick detail.
Textarea: multiple lines of text. Good for longer content like a bio, detailed notes, or a secondary description.
How to Add a Text or Textarea Field
- Go to Listing Fields
- Click Add Field
- Select Text Field or Textarea from the dropdown
- Set the label, which is what visitors see (e.g., "Hours," "Price," "Job Title," "Bio")
- Click Save Fields
You can add as many text and textarea fields as you need.
Filling In Values
After adding the field, go to Manage Listings and edit a listing. You'll see an input for each text field you created. Just type in the value and save.
If you're importing from a spreadsheet, each text column maps to a text field. See Import from Spreadsheet.
Configuration Options
Label: the heading displayed above the field value on your listings.
Show label: toggle this off to display the text value without a heading. Useful when the content is self-explanatory.
Visibility: choose where the field appears.
- Results & details: visible in the browse view and detail page
- Details only: visible only when someone clicks into a listing
What Filters Work with Text Fields
- Search Bar: text field values are included in keyword search. If someone searches "open now" and a listing has "Open Now" in a text field, it'll show up.
- Toggle Filter: show only listings where a text field matches a specific value (e.g., Status equals "Open") or has any value at all.
Common Uses
| Label | Type | Example values |
|---|---|---|
| Hours | Text | "Mon–Fri 9am–5pm" |
| Price | Text | "$25/month", "Free", "Contact us" |
| Job Title | Text | "Senior Developer" |
| Status | Text | "Open", "Closed", "Coming Soon" |
| Bio | Textarea | A paragraph about the person or business |
| Notes | Textarea | Additional details or special instructions |
For values you want visitors to filter by (like "Category" or "Type"), use a Categories/Tags field instead. It's built for filtering.
